Poetry

Laurie was labelled a ‘rising star of poetry’ by Channel 4. Her debut pamphlet Humaning was published by flipped eye in November 2021. You can order your copy here.

Praise for Humaning:

Humaning is a slim book of broad worlds from a talented and tuned writer. Laurie Ogden takes us from matryoshka dolls to basketball courts, circus tents to canal paths, to alternate universes and beyond, yet each poem grounds us in the body, in the flesh, in tightly woven tales of young womanhood. It’s a gift of a pamphlet.’Inua Ellams

Spare and beautifully crafted, Ogden’s poems oscillate between darkness and humour, intimacy and distance, creating a lyric voice that cuts right through to the knotty heart of womanhood.’Ella Frears

‘Laced with the desire for the richness of a fully embodied life, Laurie Ogden’s Humaning is a gentle reckoning with self and otherness. Her poems question as often as they affirm; willing and able to venture as much into celebrations of the human and feminine as they are into its limitations, woundings, and bright neon exit signs.’Victoria Adukwei Bulley

She was the winner of the Ambit Poetry Prize 2021, judged by Kim Addonizio, & was longlisted for the Jerwood Poetry Fellowship 2021. She is a Barbican Young Poet Alumna, was selected for BBC Words First 2015 & 2020, & a former winner of the Outspoken Performance Poetry Award. She has been commissioned by the likes of the Barbican, Sage Gateshead, Sky Arts 50, Nationwide, UNICEF, Barnardos & the Roundhouse. Her poetry has been played on E4, BBC Radio, and BBC Online. Commissions

Below are a selection of commissions from the past couple of years. From the open political provocation of the Barbican’s ‘Subject to Change’ series, to the sensitivity of Barnardos’ anti-grooming campaign, Laurie approaches each commission with care, passion and artistry.
